CLOUD MIGRATION & MANAGED CLOUD IN THE UAE

Move once, move properly, stay in the UAE

Microsoft Azure and AWS both operate UAE regions, so in-country data residency is now practical for every business. Lunet assesses each workload against cost, latency, licensing and regulation, builds the landing zone first, then migrates in waves with overnight cutovers and a rollback plan. Microsoft 365, backup and disaster recovery under the same agreement.

MIGRATION METHOD

Four waves, no business-hours downtime

01
Discovery & dependency map
Every server, database, share and integration inventoried with its dependencies, so nothing is discovered mid-cutover.
02
Landing zone
Subscriptions, identity, network topology, backup policy and cost tagging built before a single workload moves.
03
Pilot wave
A low-risk workload migrates first and runs in parallel, proving the runbook before finance or production follows.
04
Cutover & optimise
Weekend or overnight cutover with rollback ready, then monthly right-sizing once real usage data arrives.
CHOOSING A PLATFORM

Azure, AWS or hybrid: certified on both, selling neither by default

The right answer usually follows your existing licensing, your regulator and where your team already has skills.

Microsoft Azure
Best where Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Windows Server already run the business. UAE North and UAE Central regions. Hybrid Benefit reuses existing Windows and SQL licences.
Amazon Web Services
Best for Linux estates, custom applications and data platforms. UAE me-central-1 region with the widest service catalogue and deep container and analytics tooling.
Hybrid & private
Keeps latency-sensitive or licence-bound workloads on site, with cloud used for backup, disaster recovery and burst capacity. Often cheapest for stable, heavy workloads.
COST CONTROL

Cloud bills grow unless someone owns them

The common complaint about cloud in the UAE is not reliability, it is the invoice. Most overspend comes from oversized instances, forgotten test environments, unattached storage and paying on-demand for workloads that run every day of the year.

We review consumption monthly and act on it. Typical clients cut cloud spend by 20 to 30 percent in the first quarter without removing a single workload.

CLOUD SPEND · FIRST 90 DAYS

Reservations & savings plans−31%
Storage tiering−18%
Orphaned resources removed−9%

ALSO UNDER THIS AGREEMENT

Microsoft 365, backup and disaster recovery

Microsoft 365
Tenant configuration, Entra ID, Intune device policy, Exchange and SharePoint migration, backup of 365 data and licence optimisation.
Backup & DR
Immutable, off-domain backups with monthly test restores, and a documented recovery time for every system that matters.
Identity & access
Single sign-on, conditional access and privileged account separation designed in, not bolted on after the first incident.
Data residency evidence
Where PDPL or a client contract requires in-country storage, we design for it and provide the documentation to prove it.
FREQUENTLY ASKED

Cloud migration questions from UAE businesses

Will our data stay in the UAE?+

It can. Azure operates UAE North and UAE Central, and AWS operates me-central-1 in Dubai. Where regulation, a contract or your own policy requires in-country residency, we design for it and evidence it.

How much downtime does a migration involve?+

For most SMB workloads, none during business hours. Data is seeded and synchronised in advance, and the final cutover happens overnight or at a weekend with a documented rollback.

Is cloud cheaper than our own server?+

Not automatically. Cloud wins on resilience, remote access and avoiding a capital purchase every five years. A stable, heavy workload can still be cheaper on hardware you own. We model both over three years.

What happens to our Microsoft licences?+

Existing Windows Server and SQL licences with Software Assurance usually transfer under Azure Hybrid Benefit, often the single biggest saving in a migration.

Do you manage the cloud after migration?+

Yes. Monitoring, patching, backup, cost review and security sit under the managed agreement, so the estate does not drift after go-live.
